Supervision
"Supervision is the joint exploration of material presented by the Supervisee. It involves the recognition that each party in supervision has different types of knowledge and experience (so that the Supervisee has greater knowledge of the client than the Supervisor, even if the Supervisor may have greater experience of therapy than the Supervisee); and it rests on the belief that despite large areas where there is little knowledge, in the dialogue of supervision itself there is always the possibility of greater understanding.”
Walker & Jacobs (2008) Supervision: Questions and Answers for Counsellors & Therapists
Hi and Welcome to my supervision page. You may be looking for a new supervisor, or contemplating making a change at a future date. Being a therapist and working with my owns supervisor I know how important it is to find the right supervisor to support you in your work.
I am an integrative counsellor and relationship therapist and have over 8000 hours as a therapist and worked with Adults, children, young people and individuals with a range of issues. I have worked in various counselling agencies, for corporate organisations, and in private practice.
My passion is Relationship Counselling as I feel that all relationships are at the heart of how we live our live. To build and maintain healthy relationships for both my clients and supervisees is very important to me.
I am also a qualified CPCAB registered tutor and owner of Aloe Counselling Training. We teach all level of the CPCAB qualification to students. I have a clear understanding of what students are looking for in a supervisor as well as what their colleges will be looking for in a supervisor. I am able to offer support with client work as well as help students navigate their self-awareness journey as they undertake this big part of their training. I believe that shaping well rounded, supported and competent student counsellors is essential to help build that resilience we need when we work with our client’s and manage our own journeys as well.
I have supported Supervisees working in a variety of settings and with a range of presenting issues.
I passionately believe that supervision should be supportive, containing, and appropriately challenging, so that you can endeavour to be the best you can be for your clients, whilst also attending to your own self-care and professional growth.
The relationship needs to feel safe enough to bring your vulnerabilities as well as your successes.
Supervision can be a space to offload, to reflect on practice, to gain new insights, to find ways forward when feeling stuck, to recognise when your own issues are impacted by, or impacting on the work, to recognise and celebrate good practice, to identify areas for professional development and attend to your self-care needs.
You may also wish to bring organisational issues that are affecting your work, or explore ways to develop your role or service.
